Description
Location. The Hippodrome Hotel is located in Sultanahmet, the historic centre of Istanbul, Turkey, 500 metres from the nearest metro station and some of the city's major sights, including the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace. The Grand Bazaar, home to more than 4,000 shops and restaurants, is three kilometres away.

Getting there. Both airport terminals are connected to the metro system, which runs to the city centre. For Hippodrome Hotel, leave the train at Sultanahmet station, 500 metres away. The Havas Airport bus departs every 30 minutes for the main bus terminal and Taksim Square, in central Istanbul. Journey time is about 30 minutes. Bus number 96 runs between the airport and the city centre, and a shuttle bus runs to the port. Taxis wait outside Arrivals; fixed prices are in place. The fare to Hippodrome Hotel is approx. 12 17 EUR. A 50 percent surcharge applies at night. The hotel offers airport transfers for 20 EUR. Prices are all subject to change.
Getting around. Istanbul's extensive public transport system includes buses, metros (underground trains), trains, trams, sea buses, and ferries. Tickets can be purchased from main stops, stations, or kiosks prior to boarding. Istanbul's yellow taxis are reasonably priced, but travellers should ensure the meter is used. A cheaper alternative is to use a 'dolmus' (minibus or shared taxi). Driving is not advised for visitors.

Rome
Old Rome was the heart of Roman medieval and Renaissance periods. It features Italy's most beautiful plazas, cathedrals and antique monuments such as the Pantheon, the Roman Forum and the Colosseum reaching back as far as 2000 years. Piazzas such as the Navona, Campo de' Fiori offer picturesque settings ideal for a romantic laid-back dining and wining. Many of the hotels in Rome are centered around the historical city centre.
The Vatican: The Vatican is a state on its own. The Papal City State with an endless treasure troves of sights, relics and the world-known Vatican museum. Only a few minutes walk south the Vatican City you will find Trastevere. An array of narrow cobbled streets and lonely plazas served artists like Giorgio de Chirico as the inspiration for their works.
